Obituary

Stephen Leslie Lee, born on April 23, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has left this world at the age of 72. He is  the son of Donald and Bette (Johnson) Lee.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Georgette (Keller) Lee, son Eric Lee and his wife Kirsten (Rasmussen) Lee, daughter Rachel (Lee) Vyhovsky and her husband Peter Vyhovsky.

After graduating in 1969 from St. Mary’s high school in Burlington, Wisconsin Steve married his sweet heart Georgette Keller on November 29, 1969. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage in November of 2022.

Steve had a wide range of interests including speed boating and water skiing even before he was driving cars. With a strong influence from his dad, Donald, he developed a passion for motorcycles which carried throughout his life in one form or another. Belonging to several HOG Chapters his favorite bike was the Harley Davidson. He enjoyed retelling a romance story of his early courtship with Georgette in which she affectionately rolls her eyes during the retelling. The beginning of the story begins with the description of the motorcycle that would have been the envy of any high school aged kid with straight pipes for exhaust and plenty of chrome. The lighthearted tale starts with an offer of a ride home, for his future wife, after she was done working for the day he arrived a bit early and positioned the loud tail pipes directly in front of the store front windows. He proceeded to rev the engine until the glass started to rattle in sequence with the engine. Almost like a scene from the famous movie of Grease, she runs out and they tear off down the street with many of the older onlookers shaking their head in disbelief and muttering under their breath, “Darn Kids!”

With an interest in “Do It Yourself” projects, he learned many skills over his lifetime. From cement laying, high rise welder in Arizona, building constructing, electrical, plumbing and child toys. As a kind husband and father he was always ready to lend a hand to friends and neighbors. After building several homes for his family in partnership with his father-in-law George Keller, a skilled builder himself, Steve and his wife Georgette built their finest achievement in Monroe, WI. Steve Lee designed and handcrafted a 4,600 sq ft home overlooking 40 acres.

Not only was Steve dedicated to the success and comfort of his family, he was also a loyal servant of law enforcement in the Lake Geneva Police Department, Wisconsin. Serving the city for over 25 years in total, he grew from the rookie days back in the 1970’s to Sergeant before his retirement on his birthday, 2005. He was especially proud to be a motorcade patrol officer cruising on a decked out police addition of the Harley Davidson line of motorcycles.

Soon after retirement, after many years of the kids on their own adventures, they left the long winters of Wisconsin to start a new adventure in Chesterfield, Virginia, to be closer to Rachel and Peter, warmer weather and more opportunities to spend days outside on his Harley or enjoying Sunday drives with his beautiful wife. Steve was a happy and outgoing soul no matter the challenge he faced. With unwavering support from his wife and his incredible kids and their beautiful spouses he passed peacefully in the early morning hours on January 19th, 2023. Services will be private.
