Obituary
Thelma Marie Turner, born on July 12, 1956, in Charlottesville, VA, departed this life on November 1, 2025. Thelma will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her warm heart and her unwavering dedication to the people around her. With a career in education as a secretary, she touched the lives of many, especially children, through her caring nature both in her professional life and at home.
A beloved mother to her three children, Jordan, LaChile, and Lauren “Nikki” Turner, along with her daughter-in-law Kristina, Thelma embraced the joys of family. She was a loving and devoted wife to Glenn for 37 years. She cherished her grandchildren, Conall and Amelia Turner, regularly sharing moments filled with laughter, a passion for cooking and baking, and heartwarming memories. Her home was often filled with the delightful aromas of her culinary creations, especially when she enjoyed these moments alongside her grandchildren. Thelma loved time with extended family, especially her nieces and nephews and cousins.
Thelma had a flair for the entertaining, finding joy in watching old westerns, particularly “Gunsmoke,” and indulging in British comedy, especially “Keeping Up Appearances.” She was a woman of remarkable resilience, having navigated the challenges of overseas deployments as a young mother and later enjoyed traveling with family. Her life was enriched through these adventures and experiences, all of which she treasured deeply.
Thelma will be deeply missed by her siblings-Simuel “Eddie” Washington (Anne), Strother “Junior” Washington (BeeBee, late), Sallie Braxton (Warren), and Alice Robinson (Glen)-who shared in many of her cherished moments. As we remember Thelma Marie Turner, let us celebrate her rich legacy of love, laughter, and the joy she brought into our lives.
Thelma was preceded in death by: her husband Glenn Turner, her parents Strother and Peachie Washington, her daughter Lauren “Nikki” Turner, and siblings Douglas Carter (Lessie, late), Carroll Lee “Curly” Carter (Carolyn) and Arlene Frye (Ellis “Acy”, late).
