Obituary

Thomas Franklin Nuckoles was born February 13, 1961 to Paul Randolph Nuckoles, and Rebecca Lee Southerd.  He was the 3rd born out of 4 children.  He was blessed in life by his wife of 40 years Kathryn Mockler Nuckoles.  During their 40 year marriage, they raised two daughters Carrie Hibbard (Michael Hibbard) and Jordan Firebaugh (Patrick Firebaugh), through their daughters they also acquired two beautiful granddaughters Gracelynn Hibbard and Morgan Firebaugh.  He was preceded in death by his brother “Bobby” and his parents Paul “Randy” and Rebecca, grandparents, and numerous other Aunt’s and Uncle’s .

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, N-Laws, aunts, cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Tommy was a hard working man throughout his life.  There was never a day that would go by that he wasn’t working on something.  In his early life he spent time hunting, and fishing, and engaging his daughters in “tom boy” activities.  Even though he never had sons, that didn’t stop him from trying to have fun doing the things he grew up doing with his daughters.  In his later life he spent most of his time doting on his granddaughters.  His favorite thing to do with his eldest was “go creekin” he even went as far as digging out a stretch of the creek in her back yard, and naming it Gracie’s Beach.  He enjoyed many afternoon walks with his youngest granddaughter Morgan.  He always made sure to have something on hand to give the girls whenever they visited.   Their favorite place to go was “Paw Paws house.”

Even though he never had son’s of his own, he gained two through his daughters.  Michael was his first, and they spent lots of time together, hunting, fishing, and working on projects.  Patrick came along later and after watching him grow up with his daughter across the street, he knew she was going to be taken care of.

Tommy was a man of few words.  If you knew him, you know that he was set in his ways, and trying to argue with him was impossible.  He was a hard person to love, but he loved his family even harder.

Tommy and Kathy were just kids themselves when they got married and started a family.  Even though they struggled, their love never failed.  It was a different kind of Love than most people know, but it was unconditional.  Tommy made sure to always provide for his wife and children.  He was always there for anyone that was in need, and always gave everything his all.

Tommy was a like a box of chocolates.. “You never knew what your were going to get”.  He will be truly missed by those that loved him, may he rest in peace.

  1. Tommy was the best neighbor I have ever had in the over 20 years I’ve lived here. He always spoke, always waved and ALWAYS made me feel safe just knowing he was watching over me. I think he is safe now, with God…We love you, Kathy and Jordan…let us know whatever you need…

  2. I hope God wraps his arms around your family and see you through this time of sorrow. If you guys need anything we will be there. Love you all!

  3. Kathy, Carrie and Jordan, the loss of Tommy is truly a great loss. I still remember the first time he walked over to introduce himself to me. He had this big smile and welcomed me to the neighborhood. He was the first one and my love for him grew from there. It’s hard to believe it’s been 19 years! When I was sick he came many times to check on me and he always made me laugh and I always felt better when he left. We still are looking for him to be in his truck when we come home. We miss him already and can only imagine how much that is true for your family ❤️❤️❤️

  4. Mary Sampson says:

May God comfort each one of you during this time of grief. Prayers for you and may you feel peace knowing he is at rest and realize that others are there for you. Here’s hoping the candle light will shine in those he left behind.

  5. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers to you and your family during these difficult times.
