Obituary

Mumford, Thomas O., 82, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Dotti Mumford; daughter, Dr. Sharon Malley and her husband, Keith; son, Mark E. Mumford; step-daughter, Sherri Cooper and her husband, Jay; step-son, Robert Goodrich, Jr. and his wife, Alice; grandchildren, Lydia and Luke Malley; seven step-grandchildren; sister, June Becker and her husband, Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Hughes. Mr. Mumford, a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, was a survivor of the sinking of the USS Bismarck Sea at Iwo Jima. He later served as president of the Jaycees in Salisbury, MD, was an active volunteer with the Shepherds Center, a member of the Navy League of Richmond and Grove Avenue Baptist Church. An avid boater and fisherman throughout his life, he also enjoyed dancing and gardening. He treasured his family and friends and will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His life will be celebrated 10 am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to the Shepherds Center of Chesterfield, 11300 Iron Bridge Rd. Suite C, Chester, VA 23831.
