Obituary

Vernelle Pomfrey Grady, 91, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at her daughter and son in law’s home in Yorktown, VA. She was born on November 6, 1931, in Richmond, VA to the late George Oscar and Lillian Marie Pomfrey. Vernelle was also proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Keith Winfree Grady Sr. She is the last of her siblings having outlived six sisters and three brothers.

Her most important job was being a stay-at-home mom to her three children, and later being a grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a Chesterfield County School Bus Driver for over 20 years, which worked out well while raising her family. She enjoyed her interaction with the kids and greeted them with a smile and a kind word. After she retired, many of the kids, now adults, spoke fondly about their days as her bus riders. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, bowling, crocheting, and spending time with her sisters.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Grady (Carolyn); daughter, Vikki Davenport (Michael); son, Keith Grady Jr.; grandchildren, Kristi Gard (Brian), Kim Wilkinson (Heath), Katie Coverdale (Greg), James Davenport II (Jody), Michael Davenport Jr.  (Maggie), Ross Davenport (Jasmine), Melissa Sage (Shawn), and Richard Grady. She is also survived by her loving 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Morrissett funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is to take place following the service at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newby’s Bridge Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
