Obituary

Vernon E. Laprade Jr., 85, of Chesterfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Savedge Laprade; daughter, Terry Laprade O’Donohue (Don); daughter-in-law, Penny Hancock Laprade; sister, Carolyn L. Compton of Goldsboro, NC; granddaughters, Sara Katherine Reid, Parker L. Jamieson, Meredith Jamieson (Mike), Taylor S. McSwain (Tyler), Casey S. B. Laprade; grandsons, Campbell Jamieson (Susan Sullivan), Steven E. Laprade Jr.; step-grandchildren, Kent, Heather, Kerry, and Caitlin; great-grandsons, Jack Reid, Weston Reid, Baylor Jamieson; great-granddaughters, Penny McSwain, Leighton Jamieson, and many nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Edison Laprade Sr. and Allie Delle Laprade; son, Steven E. Laprade Sr. Mr. Laprade was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. He started model TV and radio repair when he was 17 years old and went on to launch and invest in numerous other ventures through the years, including Model Realty, where in addition to being a broker and selling homes he also branched out into construction and then developing entire neighborhoods. He co-founded and served as chairman of the board of the Peoples Bank of Chesterfield, County Bank of Chesterfield, and Bank of Virginia. Vernon was the managing general partner of the Holiday Inn Koger Center and owned several Burger King franchises. With all of his accomplishments he would tell you that he would want to be remembered as a good husband, loving father, and proud grandfather/great-grandfather. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Vernon’s funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church.
