Obituary

Duval, Walter Eugene “Gene,” 56, of Chesterfield, died suddenly Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maj. Hilary E. and Philippa S. Duval. Gene is survived by his beloved companion, Georgia Deane, and her children, Georgia Dawn Hill and William K. Morris, Jr.; sisters, Robin Clanton and Anne Edge; brothers, Louis (Rita), Hilary, Jr., Yogi (Maryann), and John (Carol); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with cousin and confidant, Henry Liverman, he was an avid New York Yankees and UNC basketball fan. Gene found his calling as a salesman for Richmond Ford. He was a longtime softball coach with Falling Creek Athletic Association. Gene will be lovingly remembered as a storyteller, and for his utmost kindness and generosity to all. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Church, 1400 Perry St., Richmond, VA. Interment will follow in Maury Cemetery.

    Our family just bought a car from Walter. He was very kind to us, and we’re very sorry for your loss. Our prayers will be with your family.

  2. I am so sorry for the loss of Gene. He was such a great early influence in my life coaching me in softball and on life in general. I will never forget all the great stories and all the time he took to teach me. What a great man and coach. His laugh was pretty remarkable too.
