Obituary

Wendy Yates Mets (nee Zildjian), 75, of N. Chesterfield and formerly of Midlothian, VA. Devoted wife of 57 years to Waino R. Mets; mother of Paula Mets Charles (Randolph); grandmother of Ian Melville Charles and Gwen Alicia Charles; sister of Craigie, Deborah, and Robert “Rab” Zildjian. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Armand Arthur Zildjian and Mary Craigie Heron.

She often enjoyed private flying with her family.  She and her husband traveled extensively and visited over 50 countries, many by sea.  Wendy was devoted to her family above all else and in recent years, her greatest joy was seeing her twin grandchildren, Ian and Gwen graduate from high school and continue to advance their education.

Wendy was the eldest granddaughter of Avedis Zildjian, founder of the Zildjian Company, the world’s leading maker of cymbals, drumsticks and percussion mallets.  Wendy grew up in Hingham, MA and then attended Green Mountain College.

Wendy was interested in the preservation of the SS United States, on which she sailed.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the SS United States Conservancy – ssusc.org

A private family burial is planned and a memorial luncheon will be held subsequently.
