Obituary

William A. (Bill) Tinsley, 85, left this life for heaven on October 19th.  Bill was a graduate of the old John Marshall High School, where he was a proud member of the cadet corps.  He served as Captain of “B” Co. in the Fall of 1955.  He was a retired machinist with Reynolds Metals Can Division.  Bill had a beautiful tenor voice, and music was a big part of his life.  He sang in school choirs from an early age and was a member of the Virginians Barbershop chorus for over 45 years.  Bill also sang with sanctuary choirs at Central United Methodist Church and, later, at Beulah UMC.  He loved his family beyond measure and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, his son, Mark (Sherri), his daughter Michele Barker (Johnny) and his granddaughter, Savannah Grace Barker.  Visitation will be at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, North Chesterfield, on Tuesday, Oct. 25th, 6-8 PM.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beulah United Methodist Church, 6930 Hopkins Rd, North Chesterfield, on Thursday, Oct. 27th, at 11 AM.  Family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.  A reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.  Memorial gifts may be made to the music ministry at Beulah UMC.

  1. Barbara, Mark, Michelle and Savannah,

Please accept my humble condolence for your loss. The news of Bill’s passing was exceptionally sad as Bill had an early and profound effect on my life. We lived close to each other as students at John Marshall and Bill’s influence led me to joining the Cadet Corps and becoming a member of E Company. We were both members of the Class of 1956 and the time as a Cadet led me to a career as an Air Force officer and fighter pilot. During several JMHS reunions, I had the opportunity to spend time with Bill and this was always a pleasure. Bill will be greatly missed but the memories he has left represent a greater comfort.

    1. Larry: Thank you so much for those kind words. Bill was a great husband, father, and grandfather and he will be missed by his family and many friends. I always felt fortunate to be his wife. Bill was certainly a proud member of the cadet corps – it was an organization that made an impact on so many young men. I was a JMHS graduate, class of ’55 (Barbara Bamat) – we were so fortunate to be teenagers during those years. Thank you again for taking the time to send a condolence. Blessings, Barbara
