Obituary

William “Bob” Newton Hartley, 85, of Midlothian, Virginia, went to a better place on Thursday, June 27, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Myrna Jean Hartley; parents, Armor Llewellyn and Mary Marguerite Greenstreet Hartley; and sister, Betty Ann Straus.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Hartley, William E. Hartley (Maureen); sister, Mary Ellen Price (Bill); brother, Armor Llewellyn Hartley (Rhonda); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, Victor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

After proudly serving in the Marine Corps, Bob pursued his love of flying by attending flight school. He ultimately became a flight instructor, which led him to meet the love of his life, Myrna. They married and had children together. Their family enjoyed life in Richmond and summers at their river place, boating, fishing, and crabbing on the Rappahannock River. Bob built his own successful business as a manufacturer’s representative for costume jewelry, ultimately taking a leadership position at IFJAG (International Fashion Jewelry and Accessories Group). Upon retirement Bob spent time volunteering for the Marine Corps League and doing the activities that he loved: golfing, traveling, shooting, and spending time with family and friends.

His memorial service will be held later this month at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
