Obituary

Born on November 10, 1937, in Newsoms, Virginia, William Earl Scott entered this world as a blessing to his parents, the late William Cullen Bryant Scott and Daisy Mae Worrell. On July 9, 2025, his Lord and Savior called him home, closing the earthly chapter of a life lived with faith, devotion, and grace.

William was the beloved brother of Raymond, Johnnie B, Russell, Ralph, Vernon, Jesse, Marie, Bernice (Duke), and Shirley—all of whom preceded him in rest and now welcome him with open arms.

A proud graduate of Southampton High School, where he served as Salutatorian, William pursued higher education at Norfolk State University, earning his associate’s degree. In February 1958, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, where he spent nine dedicated years before medically retiring.

He later settled in Portsmouth, Virginia—after first moving through Norfolk—and made his mark as a Currency Clerk at United Virginia Bank, and later at Crestar, before retiring in 1999. His journey took him to Missouri City, Texas, where he joined the Greater New Elijah Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, lovingly serving as both Deacon and Treasurer.

In 2010, William and his devoted wife Bobbie returned to Virginia to be nearer to family, first in Franklin and then North Chesterfield, where they made a home with their daughter Michelle.

Affectionately known as “DJ Willie E,” “Scotty B,” or simply “WE,” William was a passionate coin collector and a true music lover with an infectious joy for life. He cherished travel—especially his annual road trips to Texas—and was a steadfast “Girl Dad,” supporting his daughters through every chapter of their lives. Together with Bobbie, he lovingly helped raise their grandson Tristan, instilling in him the foundation of manhood. As Tristan grew older, William remained deeply involved, seeing him off to school each day and attending football practices and games, cheering from the sidelines, and always showing up with a loving heart.

William’s legacy lives on in those he loved most: his wife of 64 years, Bobbie Jean Scott; his daughters Bridgette Scott (Clinton Glasper), Romy Scott (Aaron Bell), Michelle Rae Scott, and Tiffany Scott-Barnett; his grandchildren Ashley McKinley, Tristan Scott, Altrice Bell, Brock Barnett, Brandt Barnett and Blake Barnett, his honorary daughters Adrenia Webster (Carlos Webster) and Erika Hart, and grandchildren Jerron  Webster and Cameron Hart; his great-grandchildren Jaxson, Jayden, and Jaylen Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were forever touched by him.

William’s life was a testament to quiet strength, abiding faith, and boundless love. Though he has departed, his legacy lingers in every story shared, every lesson taught, and every heart he warmed. He will be deeply missed and eternally celebrated.
