Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud United States Army veteran, William Henry Fennell, who departed this life on March 27, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on June 21, 1954, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, he lived a life rooted in strength, love, and service. He honorably served 20 years in the United States Army and later shared his wisdom as an author and school teacher, touching lives through both his words and his dedication to educating others. He had a passion for learning and believed in pouring knowledge into the next generation.

He was a loving and devoted husband to Ruth Fennell, and a proud father to Fred Fennell and April Johnson. He was also a cherished grandfather to Lisa Polumbo, Janina Adam, and Wesley McGrew, and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Helen Sidbury, and his niece, Shonta Gethers, along with many extended family members and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

He was a kind and intelligent man who truly loved to talk and connect with people and never met a stranger. Whether through conversation, teaching, or writing, he had a special way of reaching people and making them feel seen and valued.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

“We love you always.”

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
