Obituary

William James “Billy” Watts
November 22, 1966 – June 1, 2025

William James “Billy” Watts, 58, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away on June 1, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. Born on November 22, 1966, in Richmond, Virginia, Billy was a devoted father, proud grandfather, loving brother, and loyal friend. He was a man of strong convictions, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about.

Billy graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1985. He lived life on his own terms and found peace in the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and soaking in the quiet strength of nature. Bluegrass music was a constant in his life, speaking to the grit, soul, and tradition he valued. Known for his directness, sense of humor, and strong presence, he didn’t sugarcoat things — and those who knew him respected him all the more for it.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan “Suzie” McGann (Sean); his beloved granddaughter, Magnolia “Maggie”; his siblings: Robert A. Watts, Jr. (Shari), Janetta “Jan” W. Stankovich (Kaine), and Jeffrey H. Watts (Mauria). He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family — including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends — all of whom will deeply miss him.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia “Jenny” Perkins and Robert “Bobby” Watts, as well as his sister, Susan Watts.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Branch’s Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m., with a fellowship gathering immediately after. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories and honor Billy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billy’s memory to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, reflecting his deep connection to nature and the land he loved.

Billy’s voice, his presence, and his steady, no-nonsense love will never be forgotten.
