Obituary

Ramey, William Stanley, Sr., 88, passed away shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning, May 10, 2011. Son of Wallace and Ethel Eidson Ramey, Stan was born on October 2, 1922, in Augusta, GA, and raised in Newberry, SC. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mildred Langford Ramey; two sons, Randy Ramey (wife, Bonnie), and Bick Whitener (wife, Jennifer); daughter, Brenda Whitener; eight grandchildren, David Ramey, Misty Barker, Dusty Willet, Claude Ramey, Jr. (CJ), Mary Whitener, MaryBeth Ramey, Ryan Whitener, and Sarah Ramey; three great-grandchildren, Kallen Ramey, Owen Keating, and Aliya Ramey. Stan was preceded in death by his mother, father, and first son, William Stanley Ramey, Jr. Stan served in the Army Air Corps as a liaison pilot during World War II. He graduated with a BS degree in engineering at Georgia Tech in 1952, and was employed by DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in 1953. In 1962, he transferred to the Spruance Plant in Richmond, VA, serving in various management roles before retiring in 1985, after 32 years of service. Stan enjoyed 26 years of retirement life. He was a firm believer in helping others. A faithful member of Branch’s Baptist Church, and long-time member of the Dale Ruritan Club, Stan enjoyed a lifetime of activity with the Boy Scouts of America, as a member and leader. His proudest scouting moment was when his grandson, CJ, attained the Eagle Scout Award in 2010. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10), Richmond, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Rd., Chesterfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Bereavement Team of Branch’s Baptist Church or Hospice of Virginia.
