Obituary

William T. Atkinson, 86, of Chesterfield, VA passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. He was born on August 20, 1937 in Arlington, VA to the late Charles Franklin Atkinson and Florence Elsie Hicks. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Jean Atkinson. Bill is survived by his three sons and their wives; Billy (Ronda), Michael (Erika), and Peter (Tiffany); 10 grandchildren, William “Todd” Atkinson (LeighAnne), Nicholas Atkinson (Sarah), Darek Atkinson (Kat), Savannah Garcia (Ishmael), Santana Fulk (Dustin), Michael Karvellis, Andrew Karvellis, Rebekah Atkinson, Zachary Atkinson, and Madison Atkinson; two great grandchildren, Josie and Lexie Garcia, and one more soon. Bill was born and raised in Arlington, VA. He graduated High School from Washington Lee in 1955. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1976. As a young man every summer he worked on the family farm and had many adventures with his cousins in Hanover, VA. This is where he met his wife to be, Jean. Bill was in the USMC from 1955-1984. He did a tour in Vietnam in 1967. He was a Radio Chief and fluent in Chinese Mandarin. He finished his career in the USMC Reserves in Richmond, VA. He last worked at Lewis Supply for over 30 years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Ampthill Presbyterian Church, 2800 Falling Creek Ave, Richmond, VA 23234.
