Obituary
Yon Hwa Yu, 63, of Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Richmond, VA. She was born on August 9, 1962 in Korea to the late Sung Hyung Ko and Ki Hoon Chung. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pyong Hae Yu and sister-in-law, Hui Kyong Maxwell. Yon is survived by her son, Joseph ”Joey” Abraham Yu; daughter, Tammy Kay Yu Fisher (Gregory); sister-in-law, Kum Ok Lee (Chang Soo); brothers, Gwang Joon Ko (Ji Yong Ko) and Gyung Joon Ko (Young Hee Ko); nieces and nephews, John, Tedd (Tara), Aimee, Rick (Tiffany), Grace, and Simon; and countless other family members and friends. Yon was an avid church member who cherished her Korean Baptist Church of Richmond family. A visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 pm with her funeral service starting at 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234.

We are Tammy Yu’s new parents-in-law. Tammy married our son, Greg, last November. We only met Yon in May of 2025, on Mother’s Day, but we have heard about her for a long time. We loved getting acquainted with Yon at the wedding, and meeting so many of her friends and family. We are so sorry to hear about her passing. We promise to be Tammy’s loving parents, as she has lost both.
