Obituary

Caleb Scott Krauchunas, born March 23, 2001 at Andrews AFB, Maryland; baptized November 11, 2001; died November 11, 2021, San Antonio Texas.

Survived by his parents, Matt and Melanie Krauchunas; siblings, Tanner, Addy, Lex, Will, Evie and Rhett, of Chester, VA; grandparents, Laurie & Paul Kitchin of King George, VA and Bonnie Krauchunas of Land O’ Lakes, FL; cousins, Adam and Julia Kenney, Aidan and Christopher Harris, and Jada and Goldie Gressley; girlfriend, Sara Perez, and many aunts, uncles and dear friends.

Caleb was a student at University of Texas at San Antonio, majoring in mathematics. Caleb planned to join the military after graduating. Prior to attending UTSA, Caleb played baseball for the Feast Patriots in San Antonio, playing catcher and center field, named captain for his senior year. During his freshman year, Caleb played for the Low Country Wildcats in South Carolina, where he earned All-Conference and All-State recognition, Golden Gloves Varsity, Outstanding Hitter, and JV MVP. Caleb was active in his church youth groups in South Carolina and San Antonio, serving as an usher, working in Vacation Bible School, assisting with clean ups, and reading Scripture. His hobbies included hunting and weight training, and reading.

Caleb valued integrity, which he defined as doing the right thing when no one is watching. He demonstrated integrity in his baseball career, his work life, and his academics, stating that “cheating within academics was not true learning, simply a disguise that impersonates intelligence and hard work.” In his work life at a restaurant in San Antonio, Caleb stated that he would not want to betray the trust of his manager, even though he often worked without supervision. His manager expressed his high opinion of Caleb’s work ethic, leadership and concern for other employees. He said, “Very few people have been able to excel in literally every position they attempt in this business. . . I saw him have Tanner’s back as a coworker and family member. I have the image of him having an intimate conversation with Addy on our patio and I could see the love he had for her while guiding her. I saw him protect Lexi and make sure she was on track.”

Caleb’s friends and family knew Caleb as a confident, intelligent, fun, and hard-working young man with natural leadership abilities. Even more than that, they describe him as a kind and supportive person, fiercely protective of his family and friends—a wonderful brother, son, grandson, cousin, boyfriend, and friend—who will always be loved and remembered.
