Obituary

“An uncontrollable urge to giggle overtook me. I tried to smother it and ended up snorting in a most unladylike fashion.”

― Helen Harper, Bloodfire

This is a perfect description of a late night conversation with Lisa Dukes. She was someone who loved fully and laughed without restraint. Someone who was not only easy to speak with but was fully present in the midst of it. Whether discussing her most current book series she was reading, or who she thought was going to win in The Great British Bake Off, or even just discussing how each other’s days have gone, Lisa made it a habit to give you her full attention.

She was born Lisa Michelle Dukes to Dan & Angela on December 18th, 1979 in Orlando, Fl. She filled her time with a career that she loved at the Virginia Credit Union, celebrating with friends at weddings and baby showers, buying a home in Chesterfield, laughing and smiling at Girls’ Night, traveling to South America in 2010 on mission work. The list goes on.

Lisa has always had a warm and generous heart, with a great sense of humor and a sprinkle of mischief. She was an avid reader whose favorite genres were mystery, fantasy, and historical fiction (extra points if the author could mix all 3 together). A phenomenal artist who enjoyed painting, crafting, and baking (yes, it’s an art form). She was definitely an artist who shared her heART through hand made christmas ornaments, hand painted pottery, or a specialty made birthday cake.

“Eventually, you realize that people are a better home than a place.”

—Annette Marie, Unleash the Storm

That’s who Lisa was – a home to those she loved.

Please join her friends and family in celebrating her life at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service Sunday Nov 14th @ 2pm.

“Be excellent to each other. Party on, Dudes.”
– Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq.

  2. Deanna Dukes says:

We pray for those who have lost loved ones, please comfort them in their grief and loss, cover them with your peace and presence, as only your Spirit can do. We know that in whatever we face, you are our peace and refuge, a very present help in times of trouble. Thank you that you remind us throughout your word, we do not face the storms alone, but you are always with us. Whispering calm. Speaking peace. Bringing rest to our souls.

  3. Cathe says:

Missing you already. Hugging you close in our hearts.

  4. David Dukes says:

While reading Lisa’s obituary I was struck by how lovely a person Lisa was and I regret not knowing my sister better. She sounded like someone who I would really get along with. We might have bonded over baking, the Great British Baking Show, or our favorite books. Even though we were never close I know I will miss her dearly. My condolences go out to all those who were close to Lisa. She was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed.

  5. Barb Brown says:

Lisa was such a creative, funny, and good-hearted young lady. She had so many interests and she made an impact on more people than she could imagine. We will meet again!
