Obituary

Bob O’Connell made life look easy. He built a wonderful life with his wife of 50 years, Mary, and together they raised three daughters: Megan, Bridget, and Colleen. For much of his 73 years, Bob lived as the only male in the household, which probably attributed to his dark curly hair turning gray – either that or teaching all three daughters how to drive. With Mary by his side, Bob quietly passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. He is survived by family and friends, and was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a son-in-law. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held from 2 to 5 pm on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Bon Secours Cancer Institute Medical Oncology at St. Francis, 14051 St. Francis Boulevard, Suite 2210, Midlothian, VA 23114 or to Legacy Hospice, 1801 Bayberry Ct., Richmond, VA 23226. Many tears have already been and will continue to be shed as the result of Bob’s passing – something he didn’t want, as Bob would rather everyone remember the good times. He also didn’t want this obituary, but like most of his life, his wife and daughters overruled him on that. Sorry, Bob/Dad, but we know you are probably sailing away without a care in the world.

What a well-written obituary. For sure, Mr. O’Connell is already making friends and telling stories in heaven. I’m also fairly sure he has found some celestial wheels for a little drive. I feel so privileged to have watched Mr. and Mrs. O’Connell raise 3 amazing daughters while maintaining a loving marriage. I mourn your loss of a husband, father, grandfather and so much more. He was truly one in a million. I pray that your many special memories carry you each through today’s sorrow. Love and family never end, they are always present.

  3. Dear Mary, We are devastated with the loss of you beloved husband. Just wanted you to know that you and your family are in our thoughts, in our hearts and most especially, in our prayers.Sending our love, Dori & David

  4. Dear Mary, Megan, Bridget and Colleen,Our prayers and thoughts go out to all of you. Please know that you are all in our hearts during this very difficult time. We loved your dad so much and have many happy and special memories of him as we celebrate his life with you. Our family loves each of you very much! The Sean O’Connell Family

  5. In spite of Bobs wishes for no obituary, I’m glad he was overruled by his family. The sentiments expressed is so apt to the Bob I knew, too briefly. He rescued his elderly Aunt from across the country; he and Mary opened their home to her. They welcomed a California neighbor to their home to visit the aunt. So short an acquaintance, so strong the impression. I am that California neighbor.
