Obituary

Carol T. Wiglesworth, 84, of N. Chesterfield, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours Friday, January 21, 2022. Born March 7, 1937, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Stephen Decatur Thruston and Virginia Mae Burnett. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robby Thruston. Carol is survived by R.G. Wiglesworth, her husband of almost 62 years, and her five children, Robert (Cathy), Brian (Deborah), Janet (John), Jimmy (Mari), and Greg (Margaret). Additionally, Carol’s legacy continues through her ten grandchildren, Brandon (Stephanie), Katie (Tyler), Stephen (Caitlin), Virginia, MariAshley, Matthew, Briannah, Danielle, Kaylah, and Summer and her five great-grandchildren Piper, Addison, Emmitt, Beckitt, and Savannah. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Carol was strong-willed with a sense of adventure. She loved family trips to the beach and attending shows. She also enjoyed exploring new restaurants, especially when it came to seafood. While at home, Carol loved working on crafts, often for her Sunday School class. In the evenings, you could find her watching Wheel of Fortune with R.G. Her cooking was beloved by all who were lucky enough to try a dish – her cream potatoes and apple sauce were just some of her recipes loved by all. Carol’s thimble collection was a sight to be seen. Boasting over 2,000 thimbles on display, it was an easy gift choice for anyone on their travels. Carol was a fierce yet gentle spirit, leaving a sparkle wherever she went.

Known as the “Big Deal,” Carol was her family’s foundation. She loved gathering and was known for planning elaborate games, especially on Christmas Eve. Behind the biggest smile, the “Big Deal” would hand out the game pieces, provide instructions, and direct the games. While everyone enjoyed the entertainment, it was never about the fun. Instead, Carol intended to orchestrate moments of fellowship, creating everlasting memories and unity. As the cornerstone of the family, Carol will live on through the wisdom, mentorship, and affection she bestowed upon the ones she loved most.

In addition to shaping and touching the lives of her family, Carol committed her life to nurture others. In fact, “Mrs. Carol” was unable to go anywhere unrecognized. Her love for mentoring and caring for children was indisputable, as you could find Carol on the weekdays teaching Preschool, and on the weekends, teaching Sunday School. With more than 34 years of service at Central Baptist Church, countless lives were changed through her selfless acts of love.

Carol was a staple amongst the community, treasuring her friendships from the neighborhood where she lived and her life-long friends from church. She was a bright light to all who knew and met her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 29 at Central Baptist Church, 1500 Courthouse Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23236.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to “Ruby Cashion Preschool at Central Baptist Church.”
