Obituary

Cindy Fletcher left this world on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 6:35 p.m. Cindy passed peacefully in the presence of her surviving sisters. Cindy was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Ira Fletcher, her sister Carolyn Fletcher Radford, her brother Charlie Fletcher, and her beloved caretaker, Rose Teel. Cindy is survived by her sisters Debbie Fletcher and Brenda Boggs; her sister-in-law Fay Fletcher, her brothers-in-law Joe Towe, Reb Boggs and Bill Radford; her nieces and nephews Sara Fletcher Rutherford, Mat Fletcher, Adam Fletcher, Steve Boggs, Wini Boggs Huxoll, David Boggs and Brian Radford; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

Cindy did not learn she was seriously ill with metastatic bladder cancer until October 18, 2019. Cindy’s condition declined rapidly despite the care she received from the doctors and nurses at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis Hospital.

Cindy was enveloped by the presence of her family, her friend Nancy Baker, and her beloved priest Rev. Msgr. Michael Schmied, Retired.

Despite her condition, Cindy never lost her sense of humor and her sweet wit after learning of her condition. On the evening before she passed, Cindy showed this in some of her last precious words. When her sister returned to her hospital room, she told Cindy how cold it had become outside and asked Cindy if she would like a foot massage with her cold hands. Cindy opened her eyes and responded: “Do you want to go before I do?” This was just one example of the pure spirit of Cindy. The ability to make those she loved smile in the midst of their grief.

A memorial service for Cindy will be scheduled at a later time. In lieu of flowers, Cindy requested that contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org).

  1. I will never forget our long talks and our enjoyment making Dwight’s cards for his fans 4 times a year. I will always love and remember you and your sweet Mom.
I will see you one day. I will treasure all the sweet treasures you gave me over the years. I do remember how you loved socks. I will be sad but I know you are in a wonderful place. As Always Amore, Marie..
