Obituary

Gregg Barkley, 48, of Moseley, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  Gregg was preceded in death by his parents Lois and Edward Barkley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Valorie Barkley; daughter, Emma Barkley; three sisters, Kimberly Hay (Jack), Helen Barkley, Carmella Barkley; three brothers, Ezra Barkley, Brian Barkley, Thomas Barkley; stepson, Christopher McPhetridge (Kimberly); two stepdaughters, Christin McPhetridge, and Brianna Deoudes; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition, he is also survived by a granddaughter on the way, Paisley McPhetridge.

His family was the light of his life; they took road trips together as often as possible, trying to get lost. However, his vast knowledge of direction always brought them home. In 2020, they embarked on a cross country road trip and had the time of their life visiting all the destination spots. Plenty of dad jokes and love of classic country music were shared between him and his daughter during those road trips. When they weren’t traveling, he enjoyed performing as a comedian at The Funny Bone and other venues in Richmond, to include being on Comcast’s Richmond Spotlight. He loved his massive collection of diecast model cars, spending Christmas at Cocoa Beach with his family, watching Jeopardy!, and watching car auctions. In April of 2022, he finally able to attend the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction in West Palm Beach, Florida. On most Friday nights, you would find him and his family at Pino’s Pizza in Chesterfield where the owners and staff knew them as family. When not with family and friends, he worked as claims manager in insurance for 20+ years, most recently working with Kinsale Insurance Company. He was formerly the president of both the Richmond Claims Association and Virginia State Claims Association. Though he is no longer here with us, he will forever be in our hearts.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road. His funeral service will be held 2:00 pm following the visitation.

I just got this news and was so sad to hear of Greg’s passing. I had known Greg for several years in the insurance industry and always knew him to be very helpful professional, and courteous.

I last saw Greg at the VA State Claims convention where he went out of his way to make my family feel like guests of honor.

Truly a wonderful person — you will be missed Greg!

The news of Greggs passing is leaving a huge hole in the heart of our claims community today! Gregg was a super outstanding individual with a huge heart and great sense of humor. I personally am deeply saddened by this loss and will miss Gregg in our future claims meetings.

My sincere condolences to his family. Valorie and Emma, I heard him speak of you lovingly many times.

  4. Mrs. Barkley, words are so hard to come by for this occasion. Hard because your husband was such a great and knowledgeable guy. It was always a pleasure to chat with him on IG. Over the last 4-5 years I had come to look forward to seeing and reading his candor and sobering intellect. Gregg was always proud of Emma, and so greatful to God for blessing him with you. Rest In Heaven my dear friend Gregg B.

  5. I am so deeply saddened. I followed him on Instagram and his postings brought hope and happiness. I live in New Braunfels , Texas and it was through Humbler GTO on Instgram that I followed him. At the time, my mother was still alive asI was caregiving for her,Ifor 14 years after her stroke. A few times he would reply with kind and encouraging words .His posts about his love of his wife, daughter , dog and his own family ,helped me be strong and also reinforced how important kindness and compassion are to our family and others. He was a very clever wordsmith and obviously very intelligent and sensitive, a rare quality in the world today, Even though I never knew him in person, the manner in which he expressed his love for his family , is a tangible part of our humanity that made us all feel connected to him and ultimately to God. I send my prayers and hopes for eternal comfort for his family and friends . I will not ever forget the way his posts helped me and brought happiness . I wish I could do the same for his beautiful family and friends. In Christ Love, Roslyn Gilman aka “Alvinfor”
