Obituary

James Australia Mason Sr. was born March 6, 1943, to Faithy Ruffin Lazenby and Berry Sullivan Mason Sr. in Brooklyn, New York. Faithy later married his step father William (Bill) Lazenby.

James loved to laugh, watch movies and being outdoors. It’s not telling his story if his personality isn’t somehow portrayed. The looking over his glasses to let you know he’s talking directly to you so there’s no confusion. The soft-spoken voice that came with a no holds, barred kind of realness. With love of course. Anyone who really knew him knew he was harshly sarcastic yet, incomparably funny.

James worked at Dykes Lumberyard, in New Jersey, for many years. In 2007 James relocated to Georgia, then later on, to Richmond, Virginia. Where he later spent the remainder of his life, amongst his family and friends.

His wife; Irene B. Mason, Son; James A. Mason Jr., Brother; Berry (Sonny) Sullivan Mason Jr., along with Great grandson; Quishawn Grady. All proceed him in death.

On the early evening of January 8, 2023, James departed this life at the age of 79. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two of his three children (one deceased). Daughter; Sonja M. Mason, Son; Eli B. Mason, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren (one deceased).

James (Dad), you were a true warrior, my hero, my confidant, my rock. You fought in silence. Never showing your struggle. Dad, your strength knows no bounds. Keep your head to the sky, rest well.

James is loved and will be missed, but…..
