Obituary

James Lenwood Johnson, 85, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mellie Hanchey Johnson; daughter, Janet Johnson Williams and her husband, Joey; son, William Lewis Johnson and his wife, Lucindy; sister, Ruth Johnson Brandimarte and her husband, Ange; brother, Jerry Ronald Johnson and his wife, Franka; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicole, Jessica, Justin, and Brittany; and one great-grandson, Joshua. Mr. Johnson was a retired U.S. Marine Master Sergeant with 20 years of service, served 10 years in the Marine Reserve, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Marine Embassy Guard Association, AARP, Virginia War Memorial Foundation, and Falling Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was a volunteer at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Library of Virginia, AARP Tax Program, and the Genealogical Resource Institute of Virginia. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 4701 Turner Rd., Richmond, VA 23234.

    Just to let you know that Jeanette, Pat and I have you in our prayers. Sorry to hear about your father’s passing. From your conversations about him, I know he was a great person, husband, father and a grandfather. May God bless you and your family during this time. Remember the 23rd Psalm and keep it near your heart.
