Obituary

HAITHCOCK, Joan Liane, age 93, passed away on February 18, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born in Mount Vernon, New York on Mary 7, 1927 and was the daughter of John and Lillian Borgwald. She spent most of her youth in the greater New York City area but has been a resident of Richmond, Virginia since 1961. In 1953, she met John L. Haithcock. They were married on August 20, 1955 beginning a marriage of 65 years. Joan is survived by her husband, John L. Haithcock; children, Katherine H Louthan (Chip), John L. Haithcock, Jr. (Kathy); grandchildren, Matthew Louthan, Evin McAlister (Jonathan), Michael Louthan (Juliet), Laura Curbo (Matt); and five great grandchildren. Joan deeply loved her children and grandchildren and took great interest in their activities and special milestones. She enjoyed her bridge groups immensely and formed lifelong friendships with those women. Solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, and reading were other favorite activities. She was also an excellent seamstress in her younger years. Her life was one of devotion to her husband, her family, and her church, St. Luke Lutheran Church. At St. Luke”™s she was involved with groups and activities especially the “Women of St. Luke”. Her devotion to the Lord led and sustained her throughout her life. The family would like to thank her recent caregivers at Chippenham Hospital and Medi Home Hospice. A private service will be held at Dale Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7757 Chippenham Parkway, Richmond, VA 23225 or to a charity of your choice.
