Obituary

Larry E. Hirsch, beloved father, husband, and brother passed away January 17, 2023. He is survived by his wife Joan McMenamin Hirsch. He was a proud and devoted father to his children, Lara Hirsch Cumbey (Wyatt) and Jeff Hirsch (Reba), and a loving brother to his sister Kathy Sparks of Montrose, CO and to his brother Dan Hirsch (Kim), of Loveland, CO. Larry, the son of Dan and Eleanor Hirsch, grew up on a farm in Loveland, Colorado. After proudly serving his country in Vietnam, Larry was offered his choice of posts and chose Fort Lee, Virginia, mostly because he figured it’d be warmer than Colorado. That roll of the dice changed everything for Larry. He met his wife on a blind date and they remained happily married for the next fifty-three years. Larry built a twenty-five year career at Hauni Richmond where he made many friends along the way. He graduated from The University of Richmond and cheered on his beloved Spiders every chance he got. Larry was an avid golfer, a world traveler, and a nurturing dad to a comically small Yorkie named Dukes. Above all, he was a good and decent man who treated everyone he met with love, kindness, and good humor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Larry be remembered with a gift to Bon Secours Hospice. Gifts in memory can be made online at bsvaf.org/makeagift.

  1. Ed says:

Larry was one of my best friends in high school. He was also my fishing buddy. He saved my bacon many times during our teen age antics which in many cases turned out to be dangerous! I could always count on Larry no matter what happened. I will always remember Larry and his whole family as solid and caring. They always had a ready smile and a helping hand for me. Rest in Peace Larry. Your friend Ed.
