Obituary

On Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at the age of 70, Linda Sorrentino Ellington was called to her Heavenly home.

While on earth, Linda dedicated her entire life to serving others. To her, there was never a stranger and everyone was considered either her friend or her family. She unselfishly gave her time, talent and resources to anyone that needed a helping hand. She considered it an honor to clean houses, prepare meals, and give extended care to the elderly, disabled, or even young families who were simply overwhelmed by responsibilities. It was normal for Linda to put everyone’s needs above her own and she gave her time freely.

She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Powhatan VA. She was a Sunday School Class Teacher and a 17-year volunteer for the Prison Ministry at Beaumont Correctional Facility.

Linda was a shining example of God’s love and she studied the word of God faithfully. Anyone who was ever in Linda’s presence would have been asked the question … “Do you know Jesus?”

She loved the Lord — She loved to laugh – She loved people — and she loved to give.

Over the last few years as Linda’s health began to fail and she could no longer be as active, she spent her days studying the Bible and praying for others. It is no doubt that Linda was prepared for eternity. And, she leaves with us the gift of knowing that she is now rejoicing in her Heavenly Home.

Linda was born in Richmond, VA and grew up in Chesterfield County. She graduated from Meadowbrook High School and after marriage, she made her home in Powhatan VA.

Linda is survived by her Husband of 35 years, Wesley Ellington. She is also survived by her mother, Elsie Sorrentino; sister, Pat Pennino (Ron), brother, Tommy Sorrentino (Vicki); nieces, Darcy Sorrentino, Carolyn VanCamtenhout (Jason); nephew;  Tim Pennino (Esther). She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Sorrentino; sister, Frances Sorrentino; and niece; Bethany Pennino. Linda’s graveside funeral service will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Dale Memorial Gardens, 10201 Newby’s Bridge Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832 in lieu of flowers monetary contributions can be made to Powhatan food pantry in her name.

You will be deeply missed. You have been a true friend and a sister from another Mother. I will always cherish the great times we spent together at work and play. I think it was your humor that attracted me to you and then you took me under you wing. From the beginning we were tight friends. I love you , already miss you and hope to meet again to sit and talk over old times again. 🥰💕

  2. You will be deeply missed. You were a good friend to Norma and myself. You always kept us laughing .

  3. I have fond memories of working with Linda and Wesley at King’s Department Store in Richmond, Virginia in the 70s. Linda always had a smile for everyone and was kind to me. I will be praying for the family that they would know God’s peace through Christ. Shirley Vernon Kellemen

I went to highschool with Linda. She always had a smile for everybody. I have never forgotten her. I wish we could have spent more time together after graduation. It sounds like she had a great life and was a true testimony to those around her. Fly high sweet Linda.
