Obituary

Jones, Mary Jane, 77, of Midlothian, mother, sister, and daughter of God, left this earth to be with her Savior Jesus on June 19, 2011. She is survived by her eldest son, James Thomas Jones of Christiansburg, and her youngest of three sons, her baby boy, Gregory Jones of Mechanicsville. She was preceded in death by her middle son, her love, Allen Jones of Los Angeles.

Mary Jane was born into this world on January 22, 1934, in Coopers, WV, daughter of Ellis Bailey and Myrtle Sizemore. She was the twelfth born of fourteen children. She is survived by brothers Charles E. Sizemore of Bluefield, WV, and Clarence D. Sizemore and Roy F. Sizemore of Chesterfield, and sisters Evelyn Thompson of Newport News, and Dorothy Boothe of Chesterfield. She was preceded in death by eight siblings, brothers Ellis B. Jr., Donald F., James Franklin, William E., and Jack B., and sisters Elizabeth Jewell, E. Louise Barnes, and Clara Semonco.

Mary Jane was a member of Bon Air Baptist Church and so treasured the many years she was able to attend until her health did not permit her to in recent years. She has left behind so many dear friends and special people that touched her life as well as touching theirs with her positive outlook and inspiration even in times of life’s difficulties.

Besides her children, her proudest moment of her life was when she was invited to the White House by President George W. Bush, whom she assisted with the Medicare Act of 2003 for prescription drug benefits and witnessed its signing in July of 2003. She was later acknowledged in President Bush’s autobiography as an inspiration in making this bill a reality.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, June 21, at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, Richmond, VA 23234. Funeral services will be held at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road, Richmond, VA 23235 at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 22. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Bon Air Baptist Church.
