Obituary

Mary Thompson Smith, 94, of Chesterfield went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, George L Smith Sr., her parents, Jason Middleton Thompson and Nina Belle Thompson and eight siblings. Mary is survived by her sons, George L Smith Jr. and Jerry Lee Smith; five grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Tuck; brother, Presley Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary worked at Liggett and Myers and Philip Morris. She and her husband were members of the Model A Club for 25 years. Mary enjoyed quilting and sewing and had a “vacation farm” in Halifax County. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Mary’s funeral ceremony will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Her entombment will take place on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 3 p.m. in Dale Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Branch’s Baptist Church or Oak Forest Baptist Church. Online condolences at www.morrissett.com.
