Obituary

In Loving Memory of Ralph Paul Whiteside Morris (February 19, 1942 – February 19, 2024)

Ralph Paul Whiteside Morris, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on February 19, 2024, at the age of 81. Born to Mary Esther Morris (Nee Davis Whiteside) and John Henry Morris in Birmingham, Alabama, Ralph’s journey was one of love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to those he held dear.

As the eldest among his siblings, Ralph embraced his role within his family with boundless affection. His upbringing instilled in him a deep love for his parents and a strong sense of familial responsibility that he carried with him throughout his life.

Ralph’s educational journey led him to Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY, where his passion for technology blossomed. It was during this time that he discovered his love for building radios, a skill he later used to spread joy and connectivity within his community. Ralph further pursued his education at Apex Technical Business School in Brooklyn, New York, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Police Science.

Following his education, Ralph embarked on a distinguished career path. He joined the NYC Police Department in Brooklyn, NY, and later served as a Police Officer for Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NYC. Ralph’s commitment to service extended beyond his career, as he also served as the union representative for International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Local 237.

On June 22, 1963, Ralph exchanged vows with the love of his life, Agnes Caley, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey of 61 years and 8 months of marital bliss. Together, they weathered life’s joys and challenges, sharing a bond strengthened by unwavering love and mutual respect.

Ralph’s dedication to duty and honor led him to answer the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His exemplary service earned him several accolades, including the National Intelligence Specialist Award, Sharpshooter, the National Defense Service Medal, and recognition from Kings County Hospital Police Department.

Ralph’s infectious joy and compassionate spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and strangers alike, embodying the true essence of selflessness and kindness.

Ralph’s memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Agnes Caley Morris, their children: Desiree Morris, Andre Morris, Paul Morris, Nicole Morris Vernon, and Kevin Judd, daughter-in-law Lily Morris, son-in-law Duncan Vernon, sister-in-law Lydia Hanchell and Valerie Missick, and brothers-in-law Sylvester Onley Sr. and Wilbur Caley.

As a loving patriarch, Ralph’s influence extended to his seven grandchildren: Rickey Morris Remsey, Paris Morris, Andriana Morris, Megan Morris, Donovan Vernon, Davon Vernon, and Jordan Judd. He showered them with love and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. His love further extended to his four great-grandchildren: Joshua Morris, Karson Morris, Pariss Morris, and Saint Christopher Nguyen.

Ralph is survived by his brother, Lemuel Whiteside Jr., and sisters: Cora Whiteside (NY), Deborah Whiteside (PA), Jane Whiteside Onley (PA), Wanda Whiteside (NC), Kimberly Allen Whiteside (NC), and

Keisha Whiteside (NY). He was preceded in death by his brothers Ercell, Eric, and Elliot. His presence will also be deeply missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.

In this time of mourning, let us come together to celebrate the vibrant life Ralph lived and the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to inspire love, kindness, and compassion for generations to come.
