Obituary
Sara Katherine McQuillan, 47, of Mechanicsville, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Wayne Jamieson, her father, Carroll John Painter, Grandfathers, Vernon E. LaPrade Jr. and Thomas Hoffmann. Sara is survived by her husband, Matthew M. McQuillan; mother, Terry LaPrade O’Donohue; stepfather, Donald Kent O’Donohue; children, John Edison Reid, Weston Conrad Reid, Parker Jackson McQuillan, Seth Patrik McQuillan, Piper Donata McQuillan; siblings, Parker LaPrade Jamieson, Meredith S. Jamieson (Mike), John Campbell Jamieson, Dawn Kerry Fleming, Donald Kent O’Donohue, Jr. (Anne), and Caitlin Terry Belvin; grandmothers, Barbara Savedge LaPrade and Elaine Jamieson Hoffmann. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sara Katherine proudly graduated from Marymount High School and went on to complete her Associate’s Degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds and Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sara loved her nursing career at St. Mary’s and as a school nurse at St. Bridgets. Sara Katherine touched the lives of many with her genuine care for others. Her dedication and empathy earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues, students, and patients alike. Sara Katherine’s boys were her pride and joy. In 2022, she married Matthew and was excited to take on the role of stepmom. She loved spending time with her friends, the beach, vacations, true crime podcasts, baking cookies, walking with friends, decorating for all of the holidays, bible studies, and regularly volunteering at her children’s school. Sara Katherine was known for recognizing significant dates including anniversaries and birthdays of friends and family alike. She had selfless devotion to all people in life. Her memory will forever be treasured by her lifelong friends, patients whose lives she touched, and her beloved family. Sara Katherine leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, June 15 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Mass and service will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, June 16 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 213 N 25th St., Richmond, VA 23223. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Lung Association or Benedictine College Preparatory School.
